The CFA Society of the UK — Advocates & Enemies
How to Build Practical Strategies to Influence Your Stakeholders
(please refer to the CFA site to register for this event)
Influence is important. If you can influence effectively, you can become more successful. Successful
in work and, in life. There are many statistics to back this up — go look them up. For this session, we
will assume you are motivated to learn how to become more influential. Last year, we talked about
Influencing Styles and how behaviour can create an unwelcome distraction from the content of your
influence attempt. I hope that has made a big difference for you. This year we want to move it
on and start exploring your influencing strategy, and the skills you have to back it up.
Advocates & Enemies — my latest book — outlines a simple and effective framework to organise your
influencing work. It is tried and tested and used around the world, up to C-Suite level. This
session will show you how to use it. In fact, it will give you the opportunity to apply it to a
goal you want to influence in your work. At the end of the session, I hope you will be leaving
with a new and dramatically improved strategy for making things happen.
To achieve this, a little preparation is ideal. I would like you to arrive at the
session with a specific influencing goal in mind. You will then get the opportunity to
work on this during the session. It would also help if you can do the Influencing Skills Survey - and
invite feedback too if you like. This will help to prepare you for developing new ways to improve
your stakeholder engagement.

Again, this session will be lively, fast and hopefully, full to overflowing! See you soon,
